All Pastafarians conduct themselves according to the mandates of the Eight Commandments, also known as the Eight “I’d Really Rather You Didn’ts”, which lessons are bequeathed to humanity by the Flying Spaghetti Monster so that people can live a richer spiritual life.
Captain Mosey and Mount Salsa
According to the Pastafarian scriptures, The Eight Commandments were given to Captain Mosey, one of the Pastafarian prophets together with Henderson, creator of the religion, in the form of ten stone tablets while he was on Mount Salsa. Called the Ten Commandments or “I’d Really Rather You Didn’ts”,
Mosey transported the tablets to his vessel, the Lasagne, but when he came down from Mount Salsa, two tablets fell off, so they were lost forever. As there only remained eight tablets, he presented them to his crew as the Eight Commandments.
The Eight Commandments are the code of conduct followed by Pastafarians and give indications about the worship of FSM, the treatment that Pastafarians must show to other religions and the manners that must be observed by faithful Pastafarians.
The Story of the Eight Commandments
The idea of the Eight Commandments was developed by Bobby Henderson, creator of the movement, and he carried out the idea as the basis for the publication of his book The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, in which he expanded the beliefs on FSM exposed in his previous letter to the Kansas State Board of Education.
The book drew upon the notoriety attracted by his letter, so the publisher Villard gave him an advance payment to write it down developing the beliefs and including a creation myth, the commandments, and other stuff.
